Forensic Mental Health Evaluations
New Hope works with individuals, mental health providers, attorneys, guardian ad litem (GAL), and organizations to provide a wide array of mental health assessment and testing services.
New Hope offers a range of mental health evaluations, testing services, and forensic mental health evaluations, all of which are conducted through telehealth. We provide clients and any designated parties with an in-depth report of our findings and, if indicated, suggested treatment options. We see clients for evaluations starting at the age of six (6).
What is a Forensic Mental Health Evaluation?
A forensic mental health evaluation (FMHE) can address legal issues in civil and criminal cases. It has four basic steps: collection, examination, analysis, and reporting. This objective insight and data can be crucial in legal proceedings.
Forensic evaluations may or may not be court-ordered, depending on the purpose of the referral. Attorneys, courts, and other legal entities often seek these evaluations to apply psychological principles and techniques to address legal questions or concerns related to an individual’s mental state and behavior. The assessment can provide psychological insights relevant to a specific legal issue. These evaluations are a structured and objective way to measure a person’s mental health functioning. They can include testing a person’s beliefs, behaviors, emotions, and thought patterns.
What is the Process
of a forensic mental health evaluation?
Initial Meeting
An initial consultation is scheduled to discuss the case. I will review your case and go over the process with you. I will also gather details about your medical history, mental history, and any information you would like to share.
Assessment and Data Collection
Information is gathered through interviews, standardized tests, record reviews, and collateral resources.
Analysis and Report Writing
I will analyze the collected data to form a comprehensive understanding and clinical impression. A detailed and objective report is written following guidelines set by the American Psychological Association and the National Board of Forensic Evaluators. My findings will be summarized in this report and sent to the requesting parties. If indicated treatment recommendations will be summarized.
Testimony
If requested, I am available to testify in court, presenting her findings and providing expert opinions based on the evaluation.
